The LYFA Football Program teaches TEAM, discipline, technique, safety and confidence in a FUN and safe manner. Children from the age of 5 to 12 who are zoned for Leander High School are eligible to play. If you are outside of this area, please contact us at LeanderYFA@gmail.com. There are no required tryouts and no previous experience is necessary.
The LYFA Coaching staff is required to pass a background check, complete an AYF National Youth Football Organization Coaching Certification course, and attend local coaching clinics.
With the proper training, technique and gear, youth football is a very safe sport at all ages. In addition, minimum play requirements are in place to insure that every child plays. Thus, providing a safe and fun environment for the Lion Pride to develop.

Our goal is to use football and cheer to foster a confidence and sense of self-worth that extends to all children. Youth with cognitive and physical disabilities are given the opportunity to transform their disabilities into abilities and a chance for great achievements. The children build a network of friends, support, and trust. No scores are kept, however it is a fun, social and competitive environment. Contender division rules are available at MYAYF.com.

The LYFA season typically begins at the end of July and ends in early November for non-competitive squads and in early December for competitive squads. We will post the date in late spring and send out emails.
Games typically begin the first Saturday of September following Labor Day Weekend. Regular season games are on Saturdays unless there is a makeup or playoff.
You will play the other feeder organizations within AYF Central Texas for district games. There might be out of district non conference games with other leagues as well. Seasons are typically 7 – 9 games long depending on the makeup of teams. Competition teams will play longer seasons if they make playoffs and move on to Regional and National play.
During the first two weeks of the season, practices may be 5 days per week to get the required conditioning hours in. After that, practices are generally 2-4 days per week until school starts. Once school starts, the practices are cut back to 2-3 days per week based on the AYF guidelines.
We try to keep the practices within a 5 mile radius of Leander High School at the local elementary/middle schools. There might be practices outside that radius if lights are required.

**Game Jersey and Pants will be ordered once your registration is paid in full.
• Certified copy of the child’s birth certificate. Not a photocopy.
• Prior year’s report card for the entire year at school.
• There will be doctor's release and other AYF forms you will need to have signed BEFORE the start of practice.
Yes. We are a nonprofit, volunteer run organization, and are dependent upon parent volunteers for: coaching, concession duty, team parent duties, game day chains, MPR (Minimum Play Count) administration, board membership, and fundraising. All families joining LYFA are required to partake in our League fundraiser and game day volunteering consisting of field chains, MPR and concession duty (not during your game). Teams can have their own fundraising, in addition to the required LYFA fundraiser, if there is a chance they might move on to Regional or National play.
